Bestie Twin Nails With Filippa!

This week Filippa (@Filippa_Bengtsson) and I decided to do the famous Bestie Twin Nails tag! This is my third time doing the tag and it's honestly so much fun! After much chit chat about different designs, colors and

patterns, Filippa and I decided on doing white bows over a blue gradient. After a quick sketch, we both knew that it was the perfect design for us to do.



When we were both finished with our nails, it was actually quite freaky how similar they looked, haha. I am very pleased with how they turned out though. I think that Filippa did an excellent job!

For this design we decided on a blue gradient using Sunday Funday by China Glaze as our darkest color (since we both own that polish), topped with a bit of glitter, and two white bows outlined in black on our index and ring finger. 

For the gradient I used a makeup sponge, Royally Yours by Loreal (light blue) and of course, Sunday Funday by China Glaze (dark blue.) I also topped it off with Fairy Dust by China Glaze to add touch of sparkle to the look. After that I painted white bows on two of my nails and outlined them with my striper brush in black. Blue Jelly Sandwich

This 4th of July I decided not to go crazy with the red, white and blue. Instead, I went for a subtle jelly sandwich that still included the classic, rich blue color in the flag.

 For being my first attempt at a jelly sandwich, I am actually pretty proud. I never thought it would be packed with so much glittery deliciousness. I can't stop staring at my sparkly blue finger nails!

A jelly sandwich is when you sandwich a glitter polish between a jelly polish. For example, in my mani I started off with a few coats of Bouncer, It's Me by Essie, then I added two coats of Radiant by Revlon for the glitter, and finished it off with one last coat of Bouncer, It's Me. 

The consistency of a jelly polish is very thin and sheer, which is why it works so well for a jelly sandwich. When I add the final coat of Bouncer, It's Me, it's thin enough to still make the glitter visible but thick enough to tint the glitter to a dark blue. 

Radiant by Revlon is packed with medium sized, green, silver, and turquoise hex glitters. Along with very small and circular turquoise glitters. Two coats was just right for this look. I am so in love with this mani and I'll be keeping this one on for a while!

Cath Kidston Inspired

This week I decided to create something super girly and fun on my nails! I have been seeing this cute pattern by Cath Kidston around EVERYWHERE and I just had to have it on my nails. There was something about the colors, vintage vibe and roses (aka my weakness) that drew me closer and closer to this design.

 

To be completely honest, I'm thrilled with how these came out! They were very time consuming but I am in love with the outcome. I think the mint green (Jealous, Much? By Orly) pairs perfectly with the multi-toned roses. The roses are a bit messy and look more like blobs when you get extremely close, but from afar they look pretty nice! 

Haha see what I mean? When you get close, you realize that the flowers look like nothing more than a few flicks of red and pink. But, I'm still in love. And apparently so was my 23 year old sister because she insisted that I do them for her as well! 

For her version, since she loves blue, I decided to use Essie's Bikini So Teeny as a base instead. Little did I know that the pattern looks amazing on top of that color as well! I honestly think that the design would look great over almost any color. From pale pinks, dusty blues, grassy greens, to pastel yellows. I'm so excited to be rocking these for a few days. I hope I did Cath Kidston justice!

How To: Galaxy Nails

Long time, no see! I feel like I haven't posted a blog post in a long time! Now that I'm on summer vacation I will be updating regularly! Recently I've redone the famous galaxy print design. I have done these before but I wanted outer space on my nails again, plus it would be a great opportunity to create a pictorial which has been highly requested.

Materials: 

A sponge- I use some that are called Cosmetic Wedges
that I picked up at Target for a few dollars.

A dark blue polish for your base color- I used Marinho
by Maybelline Color Show.

A white, purple, black and blue polish.
From L to R:
Superstar by Pure Ice, On A Trip by Wet N Wild, Liquid Leather by China Glaze, Shower Together by China Glaze.

A very fine glitter polish- Fairy Dust by China Glaze.

Tutorial:

Step 1: Start off with a few coats of your dark blue nail polish.

Step 2: Using your sponge, dip it into white polish and dab it on random spots on your nail. Don't be too careful with this, it is supposed to look unique! I started with white so that when we layer on the next polish colors, they will pop. 

Step 3: Now dip your sponge into the purple polish and dab some onto parts of the white that you sponged before, making sure to leave some white peaking through. 

Step 4: Now take your blue polish and sponge it onto random areas to add more depth. 

Step 5: Now sponge on black to make this look darker and more mysterious like the night sky.

Step 6: Going back with the white, I dabbed it onto a few more areas since its been covered up by the other colors. 

Step 7: Now I used Fairy Dust by China Glaze and added one coat over the design to add the illusion of small stars. 

Step 8: This is completely optional but I like to add a few bigger stars by dipping a small dotting tool in white polish and adding a few stars in random spots. Finish with a topcoat. 

Finished Product:

You'll be left a beautiful galaxy design that you can show off to your friends and teach them how to do as well! Make each nail a bit different to make the look fun and exciting! Blue Gradient Animal Print

Haha I say the words "Animal Print" because I honestly don't know if these are cheetah or leopard spots! Anyway, the simplicity of this design almost kills me because I love looking at intricate drawings on my nails, but I still think this is very pretty.

I really love how these turned out and I'm surprised at how easy they were to do! I only needed four nail polishes and a few bobby pins to use as dotting tools. Colors used were:
