Q&A

So I've compiled some questions that my followers on Instagram have left me and some questions that people wanted to ask privately on Kik, luckily I have some answers! If you want to be a part of this and ask me questions, scroll through my Instagram profile and look for the picture regarding the Q&A section of my blog and ask me a question there! Or you can go to my Contact Me page and contact me through any of my links. This page will be constantly changing and I will add more questions as more come in!

Q: When did you start getting interested in doing your nails?
A: I think I've always had an interest in these claws attached to my fingers. Over the past few years I have built up a collection of polishes and I've learned a few tips and tricks along the way. I'm going to have to say that I was given my first polish when I was 11 and now I'm 14 and I'm taking it more seriously.

Q: Do you have a YouTube account? You should get one and create nail tutorials, that would be amazing :)
A: I currently don't have a YouTube account but you have no idea how much I would like to start one. Here's a bit of a secret, I used to have one like last year. I posted a few lame tutorials and then just stopped. I really want to start fresh though and make a YouTube account that's related to the whole idea of beauty. As a 14 year old girl, I'm really into that stuff right now and I'd love to make videos. The only thing stopping me is the fear that someone at school might find out.

Q: When will you be starting a YouTube channel?
A: Haha if I ever muster up the courage to create one, I will hopefully be starting right as I get out of school this summer, (probably at the end of June.) I know that I'm a little bit scared to start one but the fact that so many people are requesting me to do this gives me a lot of motivation in starting a channel for everyone who wants to learn.

Q: How much do you think all of your nail polish is worth?
A: Hmm, most of them are used and that definitely brings down the value, but I can give you a rough estimate on how much I've spent on these babies! After glancing over at my nail polish rack and rounding some numbers, the grand total comes up to around 458 dollars! Crazy, right? Of course these have been accumulated throughout 3 years or so and I've gotten many as gifts.

Q: What is your favorite nail design you have done on your nails?
A: Ooh, this is a tough one! I'm a really big fan of the ikat nails that I've done and apparently you guys are too! That picture has been featured on many accounts and I've also gotten wonderful feedback from my followers! I also really like the glitter gradient I did on myself a few weeks ago. That was so gorgeous and elegant, I couldn't get enough of it! That picture too, also had amazing feedback and is one of the most liked pictures on my Instagram!

Q: How many polishes do you have?
A: I currently have exactly 150 nail polishes! If you'd like to know more about my collection, click here.

Q: What is your favorite nail polish brand?
A: I think it has to be a tie between Essie, Loreal, and China Glaze. I can really go to any of those brands and know that I'm getting a quality polish. They all range in price as well. I know I can go to Loreal for a reliable polish that will only cost me 4 dollars and if I want to splurge I can go to either Essie or China Glaze which are a bit pricier. All good brands, and all have amazing colors.

Q: What is your favorite nail polish?
A: Wow, an even tougher question! After much thought, I've narrowed it down to Sunday Funday by China Glaze. I'm a big fan of blue and it is just the most gorgeous, creamy bright blue color that I've ever seen. It is opaque within two coats and is just so easy to apply. I used this color in my bow design.

Q: How do you get your nails so long and square? What is your nail care routine including products you use?
A: These are questions I get VERY often! To begin, my nails used to be super stubby and gross because I was a big nail biter. After my braces came off I could finally bite them again. I had enough of the gross nails so I promised myself that I would never bite them again and surely enough, it worked! Now I have long-ish nails that are strong. As far as getting them square, I simply file them straight across with a nail file. My nail care routine is very simple, I don't use strengtheners or anything like that. The only thing I do is use a cuticle gel and a base coat. My nails are strangely strong on their own and there is no need for fancy products. I have been wanting a nail brightener though that I saw by Revlon recently, I'm hoping it can help with the yellowing of nails.

Q: If you could polish any celebrity's nails, who would it be?
A: Haha I would probably choose Kendall and Kylie Jenner, I can count them as one person right? It seems like they're pretty into nails so I think it would be super fun to paint their nails for them!

Q: Can you paint your dominant hand as well as your non-dominant hand?
A: Well the answer to that is a big N O. Haha I am absolutely awful with using my left hand to paint my right!  My right hand usually comes out very sad looking which is unfortunate because it does all of the work!

Q: What are your favorite nail accounts on Instagram?
A: I am obsessed with MANY accounts on Instagram, I obviously love each one I follow but I do have a few accounts that have a special place in my heart. @Nails_by_Erin is fantastic, she's also super sweet which is an added bonus! @Redberrynails is also another favorite, she was my very first friend here in the nail community and she's just an all around great person! I also love @Filippa_Bengtsson, her nail designs are so clean and beautiful!

Q: What is your favorite food?
A: I'm a really big fan of goat cheese with pita chips but I guess that's more of a snack. I also really enjoy pasta. Macaroni and cheese, fettuccine alfredo, I love it.

Q: What camera do you use for your photos?
A: My answer is always a shock to people when I tell them, haha. I just use the camera on my Iphone 4S.

Q: What do you do while your nails are drying?
A: I usually try to do a very still activity like watch a YouTube video, watch some tv, stare at my nails and encourage them to dry faster (haha I don't really do that,) or I just scroll through my phone.

Q: Most difficult mani you've ever done?
A: I would probably choose the awful tribal design I recently posted. That was so time consuming and I didn't even like how they turned out which was a huge bummer.

Q: What are your other passions?
A: Aside from nails, I really like doodling even though I mostly do it during class. I like hanging out with my two good friends, Rachel and Kristina, they're honestly the best and I could hang out with them for hours and not get bored. I also like to play video games and go on netflix.

Q: How do you paint your nails without getting any polish on your skin?
A: Trust me, I get polish on my skin all of the time. I simply dip a cotton swab in nail polish remover and wipe it clean. Haha I'm not perfect and I make so many mistakes!

Q: How do you take care of your cuticles?
A: All I do is use the Cuticle Remover Gel by Sally Hansen. I apply it to my cuticles and gently push them back with the applicator and then wash my hands with warm, soapy water! I don't snip my cuticles, that looks painful. I always make sure to moisturize my hands and not pick around my nails or cuticles.

Q: Who taught you how to do your nails?
A: Honestly, nobody. I taught myself everything I know, of course with the help of YouTube tutorials and Instagram inspiration.

Q: What are you currently doing in school?
A: I'm working on a big project and starting to write an essay of my choice, I chose the the psychology of human facial recognition. From what I've researched, its pretty interesting.

Q: How did you get so many Instagram followers and what advice do you have for someone who wants to start their own nail Instagram?
A: I honestly don't know why people follow me or have any interest in what I do, but I love it! I also don't know how I have a whopping 7,000 followers! It's all pretty surreal and I'm so thankful that I have this opportunity. As for advice, I would say to have fun and be patient. Don't make an Instagram account for your nails if you only want to become "famous" and gain a lot of followers, there's no point in doing that. Make an account because you want to be a part of a community of really nice people that will support you, make it because you have a passion for nails and you want to share your ideas, make it to have fun. That is how you become truly successful. Good luck on your journey and I hope you have a lot of fun!

    1. Hi LaToya! Yes, I've had this questioned asked before and I do have a trick on how to fix this problem! If I ever want to mattify my nail art, I use one coat of my regular fast dry top coat that doesn't streak my polish (Seche Vite), followed by one coat of my matte top coat. It leaves no streaks and I also get double the protection for my manicure :) I hope this helped! I'm actually really inspired to make a blog post about this topic soon, thank you ♥
